Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – The Ultimate Yogi

mlk quote

Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work. Dr. King was not only a great civil rights leader, humanitarian, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, he was also a yogi.  He followed the path of Karma Yoga which is the yoga of selfless service. This type of yoga is practiced as a means to help, heal, and share. He was a “peaceful warrior” committed to nonviolence or ahimsa which in Sanskrit means the avoidance of violence.

Feline Yogi salutes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and we thank him for his work to make this world a better place for all beings who live on this planet.

Until Next time….Meow and Namaste to All!

Love,

Pippy

Here’s to a Cat-tastic 2014!!

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us! And Happy New Year!

Hanging out and taking it easy this past week

Hanging out and taking it easy this past week

I, Pippy (being European at heart) took an extended vacation this past holiday season. I did not return back to my duties as CEO of Feline Yogi on January 2, like many of my counterparts in the American business world. Instead I took several more days, lounged around, and humored my human by letting her take pictures of me for Instagram!

When one of my humans this past week asked me “Pippy what are your New Year’s Resolutions?”, I was at  first taken aback!  Pippy does not make resolutions!  Resolutions were invented for humans to make them feel empowered for the first week of the year. And as we all know,  by mid-January nary a word is spoken again about their oh so ambitious resolutions!

My human all excited about the New Year and the Resolutions she will not keep!

My human all excited about the New Year and the Resolutions she will not keep!

I have never once heard either of my humans following up in March, August, or even late January on how their resolutions are going for them. No, not once! And do you know why? Because they have forgotten them by that time!

However, after much contemplation I decided why not!! I can play the ” New Year’s Resolutions” game and unlike humans I will keep mine! Below are my resolutions for 2014 and I promise that I will get back to you in late January as to how it’s going!

  • Sleep more
  • Pose for more Instagram pictures
  • Watch more Bird T.V.
  • Take up more room on the bed at night
  • Walk on more computer keyboards
  • Get on my human’s yoga mat when she gets it out (yes I know I have my own yoga mat but that’s not the point!)
  • Jump up on more “no no places” like the kitchen cabinet, the male human’s computer table, the lap of my female human’s mother who does not like cat hair on her designer outfits, etc…

Until Next time….Meow and Namaste to All! And Best Wishes for a cat-tastic 2014!!

Yoga Cat Fun

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

How many of you felines out there have stressed out humans? Does your human over-schedule themselves, over-obligate themselves, and set up unreasonable expectations for one of a lesser species?  I know mine does! And my human practices yoga almost every single day! Not that one would know!

It’s important that we felines remind our humans to have some fun now and then. DISCLAIMER: AFTER OUR NEEDS ARE TAKEN CARE OF OBVIOUSLY! Yoga is a serious thing but it can also be fun. Felines take a look at this 30 second video I found on You Tube of a cat and her human having fun while practicing yoga. Share with your own humans and have some fun this week! Life is too short to be taken seriously all the time.

Until next time…..

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy

Featured Feline Yogis: Mulberry Spot & B.W. Huckleberry

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

The featured Feline Yogi Yoga Cats this week are Mulberry Spot and B.W. Huckleberry. Both of these gorgeous felines are accomplished yogis who take their yoga practices very seriously.

Their human recently took this charming video of Mulberry Spot practicing vigorously away when all of the sudden B.W. Huckleberry comes along to discuss his form. Like humans, the felines community sometimes disagrees on what exactly is proper form and we are quick to aid each other, offer suggestions, and make adjustments.

Enjoy watching these two esteemed yogis in this short video and you too can learn something about proper technique!

Meow and Namaste Mulberry Spot and B.W.Hucleberry! Thanks for sharing your yoga practices with us!

Until next time…..

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy

Featured Feline Yogi Yoga Cat-Dunkel Ruschenberg

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

Dunkel loves catnip!

Dunkel loves his Feline Yogi Yoga Cat Mat!

The thing that I love about the on-line world (and being CEO of Feline Yogi) is meeting all the pawsome Feline Yogi yoga cats out there. My newest on-line friend is Dunkel Ruschenberg and he is also the Featured Feline Yogi Yoga Cat this week.

Dunkel ( long time yoga practitioner) says that he was so excited when he saw the Feline Yogi Yoga Cat Mat  featured on Sparkle the Designer Cat’s blog that he bought one immediately.  Sparkle is another yoga cat friend of Dunkel’s and mine and a very skilled yoga practitioner as well!

Dunkel is a yoga master!

Dunkel is a yoga master!

Even Dunkel’s human has gotten into yoga lately and they often like to practice together.  Dunkel is always happy to offer a few pointers. It’s important that we yoga cats offer help to our humans. I know I’m constantly having to correct my human’s form because some of her poses are so pitifully pathetic. But then again, this is one of the ways we can help guide our humans to enlightenment.

Dunkel writes to me that the catnip ball is his favorite part. Being the catnip connoisseur that I am, Pippy was very happy to hear this. This euphoric herb is a very important part of the yoga experience for us felines and the Yoga Cat Mat was designed with this in mind.

Look at his amazing flexibility!

Look at his amazing flexibility!

Dunkel’s favorite pose is the side stretch pose where he lies on his side and stretches! The Sanskrit name for this pose is: Anantasana. Notice his form in the picture above felines. His attention to detail and stellar skill set is evident by the perfect alignment he exhibits in this challenging pose.

In addition to being a premier yoga cat, Dunkel has also started a cat blog of his own with his fellow yoga cat house companions  Smokey and Vito. It is called Three Cat’s Tails. Pippy visits his blog quite often. Click on the link above or here. Check it out and say hi and that Pippy sent you!

Distractions that Hinder the Yoga Cat’s Practice

feline yogi yoga cat

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

I’d like to specifically address the humans this week.  I know that you admire us yoga cats and rightly so yet you often make it hard for us to practice.

Do you want to learn from us and maybe just maybe reach a small bit of enlightenment in your lifetime? If so (or even if you don’t because you know you’re a lost cause) please take special note of the list below.  Take every precaution to make sure that we yoga cats’ yoga time is free from these distractions. Thank you in advance!

  • STROKING AND PETTING: Please don’t start in with a bunch of petting when we are meditating or practicing a particularly challenging asana. We prefer to come to you when we want pets and not the other way around.
  • TALKING IN A HIGH PITCHED TONE: We know that we are adorable creatures and do like to hear you say so but please speak to us as the supreme beings we are and not like we are toddlers.
  • EXCESSIVE PHOTO TAKING: Taking pictures of us constantly  while we are trying to practice yoga is very annoying.  Honestly what did you humans do before digital photography?
  • NOT ENOUGH YOGA MATS TO GO AROUND: For multiple cat households, please provide enough mats for each of us to practice on even if it means letting us use yours. And if you decide to practice at the same time as us and we want your mat as well, then please step aside or learn to work around us.
  • THE VACUUM CLEANER: The noise that comes blaring from this horrible machine makes us run the risk of getting our perfectly aligned chakras out of whack!
  • NOT PROVIDING ENOUGH CATNIP: Please make sure you always have plenty of catnip in the house especially during yoga time. Please keep on good terms with your catnip connection or better yet grow it in the house so you never run out.

These suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg. Felines, please chime in with your suggestions as well and have your humans post them in the comments section. We yoga cats must stand up for ourselves and make sure that our humans do not cause us to devolve!

Until next time…

Meow and Namste!

Love, Pippy

Pippy practicing a resting pose on her yoga mat

Pippy practicing a resting pose on her yoga mat

Greetings felines and the humans who serve us!

Spring is in the air and I, Pippy, am taking a well deserved break from blogging this week. My column plus the Featured Feline Yogi Yoga Cat of the week will resume next week. My human is attending the Blog Paws Conference in Wash D.C. this week so I will be holding down the Feline Yogi shop while she heads to the other side of the continent for whatever it is you humans do at those events you call conferences.

Pippy does not like to travel so I will be staying in Los Angeles.  As a 5 month old kitten, I traveled to Valencia,CA and then to Beverly Hills, CA to do a photo shoot for a cat food company. It was a fun experience but after that I decided that traveling was not Pippy’s cup of tea plus I would have no patience with the TSA if I had to go through airport security. My human asked me if I wanted to be a show cat but I said no way!  Pippy prefers to hang out and do yoga.

I have everything I need in my humble abode on the West side of Los Angeles. I have a window to observe the birds and that handsome outdoor orange cat that I call “The Gentleman Caller”, a yoga mat for practicing yoga, and plenty of comfortable spots to practice resting pose which is my favorite.

The male human of the household will be our sole servant this week so I hope he is up to the task! He does not get up as early as the female human but I and my fellow cat mates will change that this week! We will have him rising and shining by 4:30 am in no time if we do our job correctly!

Until next week….

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy
