Book Review: Total Cat Mojo: The Ultimate Guide to Life With Your Cat

Meow & Namaste felines and greetings to the humans who serve you!  It’s Pippy here, the CEO (Cat Executive Officer) of Feline Yogi and I would like to recommend  a book you humans absolutely must read! And felines, it’s up to you to make sure your humans get a copy of this book.   If you’re like me, you’re not interested in being just another member of the household.  You want your humans to understand everything about the majestic creatures we are and how they can give us the best life possible.  Jackson Galaxy’s latest book Total Cat Mojo can help humans accomplish just that and more.

My human and I are long time fans of Jackson Galaxy.  I have sat in her lap for numerous hours as he taught her more about me while watching  him on My Cat from Hell TV episodes.  She likes him because she can learn so much about our superior species and what makes us tick and I like him because he really gets what we cats are about! He’s so enlightened that sometimes I wonder if he is a cat masquerading as a human but I digress!

With his co-author Mikel Delgado, Jackson Galaxy explores Cat Mojo. Jackson came up with the phrase Cat Mojo to describe the natural born confidence that is each cat’s birthright.  Cat Mojo is the confidence we have when we are at ease in our environment and in touch with our natural instincts. Jackson lists these as : hunt, catch, kill, eat (HCKE).   Within each of us cats is a “raw cat” driven by our ancient instincts and HCKE gives our lives meaning.  Jackson says HCKE is the anchoring foundation of the Raw Cat Rhythm.

Many of you humans have good intentions but  you often don’t understand our instinctive behavior nor give us the environment we need to HCKE.  As a result we can be naughty and act like little demons but what we are really trying to do is gain back our natural confidence and get  our Cat Mojo on! In addition to HCKE, we also like to groom and sleep and when we have an ideal environment to to get these “jobs” done and live up to our potential, we are fulfilled and happy.

This is a comprehensive guide to living with us felines and how we can have fulfilling relationships with each other.  The book is also filled with cute drawings, fun Cat Daddy Facts, and lots of other fun info about us cats from the beginning of our evolutionary journey to the present.

My human loves this book and she still continues to study it.  And I can tell it’s making a difference in our household of numerous cats!  I think she’s finally beginning to really get who I am!

Total Cat Mojo is on shelves Oct 31, 2017. Visit Jackson’s site by clicking here for more info on book tours and where to purchase.

And of course like everything else in this world you can find it on Amazon!

Disclosure: This review is my honest opinion and i did not receive any extra cat treats for it!

Tortitude: The BIG Book of Cats with a BIG Attitude

Tortitude FC

Greetings Felines and Greetings to the humans who serve you!

What do I love as much as yoga? The answer would be books about cats! And boy do I have a wonderful one to tell you about.

My human and I recently had the honor to read Tortitude: The BIG Book of Cats with a BIG Attitude by Ingrid King. Not only is it an excellent and informative read but the physical book is gorgeous as well. It is beautifully designed and  includes pictures of some of the most gorgeous tortes ever! My human has the book nicely displayed on her desk and likes to take breaks from her work so she can  ooh and aah at the pictures of all the adorable torte kitties.

I on the other hand know my species is adorable so I was more interested in reading about tortoiseshell cats and what makes them unique. Ms.King does a great job in paying tribute to one of the most feisty, unpredictable, and fiercely independent felines in the domestic cat kingdom. Her book goes into great depth on the unique genetics and what makes a torte a torte! Not only are the personalities of tortes special but the coat color as well plays a large part. A torte is not a breed and tortoiseshell markings can be found in many breeds including the Abyssinian, British short hair, Somali, Siamese, Sphinx, and many  many more. I could go on and on but I don’t want to give too much away because I want you to read this beautiful tribute to these very special cats.

After reading the book, my human told me I was probably a torte. I told her to email and ask Ms.King of which she did. I already knew the answer but I thought it best she hear it from someone other  than me. She was told that I am a torbie! A torbie is a tortie with tabby stripes.  There are other torbes featured in the book including Artoo and Grit and if you get the book, you can see what I’m talking about.  My human then told me I was a real piece of work! I just rejoiced inside and acknowledged to myself that my work is done! She finally gets what I’m about!

Yes, I have Tortitude!

Yes, I have Tortitude!

Visit Amazon by clicking here and check out this lovely tribute to torte cats. It’s a wonderful read, a nice book to add to your cat book collection,  and would make a great gift to give the cat lovers in your life.

Below is some info about Ms. King and don’t forget to visit her website The Conscious Cat.

Ingrid King is the award-winning author of Buckley’s Story: Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher, Purrs of Wisdom: Conscious Living, Feline Style, and Adventures in Veterinary Medicine: What Working in Veterinary Hospitals Taught Me About Life, Love and Myself. Feline Yogi Yoga Cat Update

I practice yoga everyday!

Yoga Cat and Master Feline Yogini Pippy

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve you!

Feline Yogi has taken quite a hiatus and it has been several months (in reality well over a year!) since we’ve last blogged. I know many of you follow us on Instagram, the social media outlet we are most active on. Between making the Yoga Cat Mat, managing our business, and of course making time for our own yoga practice, we just have not had the capacity to blog as much.

Although we will not be blogging every day, we will be updating this blog much more often in the days ahead. Sometimes to let you know of something exciting that is happening and other times to share some pictures of our wonderful feline catstomers practicing their yoga on the Feline Yogi Cat Mat.

Speaking of cats practicing their yoga on the Feline Yogi Yoga Cat Mat, here’s a picture of the very accomplished Fredrick about to practice downward facing cat pose!

National Feral Cat Day 2014

This is Popcorn one of the Community Cats my human cares for. And yes, she is fixed!

This is Popcorn one of the Community Cats my human cares for. And yes, she is fixed!

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

Today is a special day! It’s National Feral Cat Day 2014!

All cats are special whether they are indoor, outdoor, live with people, or free-roaming without a human to own. Today however, we honor and bring awareness to feral cats or community cats as my human likes to refer to them. Community cats can include urban (street) cats, country (barn) cats, tame cats, wild (feral) cats, cats living in managed colonies, and strays surviving on handouts.

Alley Cat Allies (one of my favorite groups) launched National Feral Cat Day in 2001 and it is observed each year on October 16. The purpose is to raise awareness about feral cats, promote Trap-Neuter-Return, and recognize the millions of compassionate Americans who care for them. The theme for this year’s National Feral Cat Day is “TNR: From the Alley…to Main Street. ”

My human and I are big advocates of Trap Neuter Return or TNR for short.  This is the method of humanely trapping feral cats, having them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped for easy identification and then returning them to their colony to live out their lives. For more info about TNR click here.

Happy National Feral Cat Day 2014 and thanks to Alley Cat Allies for all the work they have done and continue to do in bringing awareness to the public about these special cats!

Meow and Namaste!

We are so excited that this pawsome event is coming to the town we live in! As soon as we found out about it, I encouraged my human to sign up right away! My humans love cat videos and who doesn’t? We kitties pretty much own the internet or caternet if you will!

Are Cats Taking Over the Internet?

Contemplating what it means to belong to a superior species and plotting more ways to take over the Internet ( I mean Caternet!)

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us!

Have cats taken over the internet? You bet we have!!

But this is nothing new to any feline or human. We practically own the internet and more and more humans are acknowledging our superiority and understanding that they way to be truly happy is to serve and cater to the feline population. Every day more and more kitties show up all over the web to enlighten and entertain those of the human persuasion. We felines are on a roll and have no plans for stopping until every bit of bandwidth is taken up with cats!

Just recently one of the world’s most respectable investigative news organizations The Guardian   asked people to submit their pictures of cats doing yoga. (Yes, The Guardian has their priorities straight! ) Hundreds of pictures were submitted and they chose 12 of the best and featured them in a special photo gallery. Do you know who was included in that gallery? None other than Fergie the Cat who was our  Featured Feline Yogi back in May.  His human submitted a picture of him doing a pose on what else but his Feline Yogi Cat Mat!  Check him out and all the other accomplished yoga cats by clicking on the link below.

Click here for cats doing yoga: You will not be disappointed!

Soon one will not be able to Google any subject without a cat showing up on your search. Looking for info on how to save money? No problem, a site with cat pictures and videos will come up first in your search.  Wondering what is going on internationally in the news? Again, a cat site will come up and that’s really all you need to know!

Here I am doing an intense stretching pose

The other day my humans were watching yet another UTube cat video and commenting to each other about how cats have taken over the internet. Since I consider them my intellectual inferiors I try to avoid conversing to much because neither is very intellectually stimulating.   It did occur to me however that since we kitties have taken over the internet I’d like to propose a few vocabulary changes. The internet should now be referred to as the “Caternet” and when one talks about going online you will be going “fe-line” instead! What do you think?

Until Next time….

Meow and Namaste!

First Cats of the United States

Socks The First Cat giving a White House briefing

Socks The First Cat giving a White House briefing

In honor of President’s Day in the U.S., Pippy and I thought it would be fun to honor some of the cats who have resided in the White House. And although Feline Yogi is a big fan of the current First Dog, Bo, we do hope that our list will encourage President Obama and his family to take in a cat or two! We’ll even send a Feline Yogi Cat Mat as a gift!

  • Tabby: Tabby was the very first First Cat of the United States of America! His human was President Abraham Lincoln’s son Tad. Lincoln agreed to bring Tabby to the White house as a result of his son’s request. Lincoln loved cats so much that he rescued three half frozen kittens during his tenure and brought them back to the White House.
  • Siam , Miss Pussy, and Piccolomini: President Rutherford B Hayes was the human of these lovely felines. Siam was the first Siamese to reach the United States in 1878. She was a gift from the American Consul in Bangkok, Thailand, to President Rutherford’s wife Lucy.
  • Slippers and Tom Quartz: These two house kitties human was President Theodore Roosevelt. Slippers was a gray, six-toed cat who would frequently fall asleep in the hallway, resulting in guests at official state banquets having to make their way around her so as not to disturb her slumber. Tom Quartz was named after the cat in Roughing It by Mark Twain.
  • Smokey, Blackie, Timmy and Tiger: President Calvin Coolidge was their human. Tiger liked to be carried around the White House by wrapping himself around the President’s neck, and Timmy allowed Coolidge’s canary to sleep between his paws!
  • Puffins: This feline’s human was President Woodrow Wilson. There’s not much information about Puffins but we can only imagine that he or she must have been rather puffy!
  • Tom Kitten: His human was Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F. Kennedy. Due to the President’s allergies, Tom Kitten’s stay at the White House was not very long so he took up residence in a new home. Such an esteemed feline was he that there was an obituary notice by the press when he passed in 1962.
  • Shan: This feline’s human was Susan Ford, daughter of President Gerald Ford. Shan was a beautiful Siamese cat.
  • Misty Malarky Ying Yang: This cat with the fun intriguing name was a Siamese. Her human companion was President Jimmy Carter’s daughter, Amy Carter.
  • Socks: Socks received more press than any other cat ever to live in the White House. Even a book was written about this kitty whose humans were President Bill Clinton’s family. Socks was the first cat to live in the White House since Amy Carter’s cat.
  • India “Willie”: His humans are President George W. Bush and family. A beautiful black, cat, he had been a beloved member of the Bush family for many years even before he moved into the White House.

President William McKinley and President Ronald Reagan were also owned by several cats but the cats did not move into the White House with them. Not being interested in the politics of Washington D.C., the cats chose instead to stay behind in their humans’ homes. They would reunite with them on holidays and of course after their terms were completed.

Happy President’s Day! We honor all the U.S. Presidents today for their service and those special cats who served as well!

Meow and Namaste!

Practicing Yoga Off the Mat-One Cat at a Time!

The Kitties in the Hodges Household waiting to be fed

The Kitties in the Hodges household hanging out in the kitchen waiting to be fed

As much as I adore this magnificent species, let’s be honest feline lovers, cats can be rather challenging to live with at times. That unexpected swat during what you thought was a peaceful petting session, or waking you up at 3 a.m. for a snack can severely test your equanimity. Since my karma in this life is to live in captivity by beautiful little felines, my yoga practice keeps me grounded and patient thus fulfilling my dharma of giving excellent service to those of the feline persuasion with nary a complaint.

The cats I live with and interact with on a daily basis keep me on my toes and there is never a shortage of episodes to practice yoga off the mat! Like the other day for example. After a 90 minute yoga class which included some intense backbends, I arrived home feeling rested and calm. Was I able to continue that relaxed Zen feeling? The prospects did not look good.

The community kitties outdoors were ready for their early evening feeding and were staring at me intently through the glass door.  The indoor felines would barely let me take off my shoes and put down my things before they were circling my feet and daring me to ignore them. Suddenly everyone became rather chatty and I could not hear myself think over the chorus of Meows!

It was 4:00 p.m. and there was an hour to go before feeding time. What to do? Should I make them wait until the scheduled time? They all looked so cute and saying no to cats is not one of my stronger points. Should I give in and feed them I asked myself. So what ended up happening? I of course gave in but you knew that without me even having to tell you!  And remember I wanted to keep that relaxed Zen feeling. I would have hated for that hour and half I spent on the yoga mat to have been all for naught!

 Meow and Namaste!
