Greetings felines and the humans who serve us!

Several humans (including my own) often ask me, “Pippy, what’s up with cats and yoga mats?”  Why the obsessive attraction and why do you want to constantly get on ours when we are practicing?

First of all, Pippy would like to remind you that I and my species are the ultimate yogis so it is quite natural that we would gravitate towards a  yoga mat. There are other reasons of course and  I, Pippy, have prepared a list that I share with you below.

  • Anything you are on top of or engaged in, we are interested!  Don’t ask why, just accept it!
  • Yoga Mats are soft and plushy and feel so good!
  • Yoga Mats are a great place to scratch and play various feline games.
  • Yoga Mats are a good surface for cat nip.
  • Yoga Mats are fun to sit on while meditating and reflecting what it means to be such a superior species.

Pippy would also like to remind you that just because we like to get on your yoga mat doesn’t mean we don’t want our own. And sorry humans, just because we can get on yours doesn’t mean you can get on ours! Hee Hee and Meow Meow!

Until next week….

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy

Who’s Practicing Yoga on the Feline Yogi Cat Mat?

You may recognize Charlie and Priscilla as they are the owners of Stephanie, the purr-son who runs the fabulously popular Catsparella cat blog! Priscilla, according to Stephanie, spends a great deal of time on her practice but does take a wee bit objection when Charlie gets too close to her!  Priscilla however is enlightened enough to know her issues and is working on poses to allow her to become more accepting of  Charlie  so that eventually they might be able to practice yoga together.

Charlie, who is equally enlightened, understands that Priscilla needs  her space and is happy to oblige! When Priscilla is finished with her practice, Charlie claims his place on the Feline Yogi Yoga Cat Mat, practices a few standing poses,  and then engages in some deep breathing and purr chanting to center his mind, body, and spirit!

Charlie and Priscilla are both very accomplished yogis and Feline Yogi is proud to feature them as the Feline Yogis of the Week. Meow and  Namaste Priscilla and Charlie!

Pippy making a comfy “tent” with her yoga blocks

Greetings felines and the humans who serve us!

I recently received a question regarding yoga blocks. The question was as follows: Pippy, what is the purpose of yoga blocks? They are aesthetically very appealing but how does one use them in their yoga practice?

Pippy appreciates this question and is happy to inform my readers further about yoga blocks. Yoga blocks which come in different sizes and shapes are made from a variety of materials including foam, wood, and cork and are used to maintain proper body alignment during yoga poses. Pippy thinks humans should use props as much as possible and not let your ego get in the way. Some human yoga students shy away from props because they think it’s a form of weakness to use the extra help. But lets face it humans! Not a single one of you will ever be as flexible as the cat so take all the help you can get and use a block!

Pippy loves yoga blocks! I often place one next to me while practicing yoga on my Feline Yogi Yoga Cat Mat.  Not because I need them to perfect my poses but because they are so much fun! There are no rules with them which is what makes them so inviting. I especially like to scratch the ones made of cork and foam, use their surface for rationing out my catnip, and paw at them when my purr-son uses them while practicing yoga at home. It’s especially funny when I knock her off balance! Buy hey, Pippy is helping her stay present and focused no matter what the challenges, right? Hee hee and Mew mew! 🙂

Until next week….

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy

Greetings felines and the humans who serve us!

I, Pippy, have a very special story to share this week. Like most of you Pippy has a very busy schedule. Overseeing production of The Feline Yogi Cat Mat and more importantly making sure that my humans pulls her weight so Pippy doesn’t end up doing everything keep me extremely busy!

I do however manage to carve out some time just for myself! And in that free time lately, I have been studying the sacred yoga text The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. And you thought because I’m a cat that I spent my free time napping, huh? Not Pippy! I am always on a quest to better myself if there is such thing as a cat getting any better than we already are!

The Yoga Sutras outline the eight limbs of yoga which form the foundation of yoga practice. One of those limbs is Yama which is universal morality which includes the characteristic of Ahimsa. Ahimsa means kindness and violence towards all living things. I recently found out about a wonderful example of Ahimsa that I would like to share with you.

I have a pal named Wubbikins who I recently became friends with over the internet whose human writes a wonderful blog called Cat & Birdie. You humans aren’t the only species connecting on-line you know! Now back to my story. Wubbikins recently gave her Feline Yogi Cat Mat to the shelter kitties at the Animal Rescue League of Boston. One cat in particular named Princess has had a particularly hard time adapting to shelter life and Wubbikins wanted her happy so she let her have her green Feline Yogi Cat Mat. Princess loves the mat and her days are much brighter now. This is not just because of the mat but because of the love and concern that Wubbikins showed for her.

You see yoga is not just about how far we can stretch or those fancy beautiful poses we can do with out bodies. Yoga is also about what’s inside us and giving back. Wubbikins knows this and that’s what makes her such a wonderful feline yogi! Let’s all follow Wubbikins’ example and practice some loving kindness each day towards all God’s wonderful creatures.

Until next week….

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy

Princess and Queenie were the lucky winners of The Conscious Cat giveaway of the Feline Yogi Cat Mat several weeks ago. These two lovely feline yogis are from the Rocky Mountain state of Colorado!

They are thrilled that their human entered the contest for them and even more thrilled that they won! Now that they have their new Feline Yogi Cat Mat they can delve even deeper into their yoga practices.

Accurate form and detailed attention to alignment are important to these two serious yoga practitioners. They both know that proper alignment encourages weak parts of the body to strengthen and stiff areas to release. This in turn awakens and realigns the whole feline body and takes them to the natural state of enlightenment where felines are meant to be!

Meow and Namste to these two gorgeous and inspiring felines!

Pippy on her yoga blanket

Pippy on her yoga blanket

Greetings Felines and the humans who serve us! Pippy trusts you all had a glorious weekend and are ready to hit the ground running with a new week! Spring is in the air and Pippy is excited about the possibilities.

Spring is a fabulous time for humans who have yet to try yoga to do so now! I know that the majority of my human readers are owned by cats so you have witnessed firsthand exactly what a yoga practice entails. Below are some of the ways a human can benefit from yoga and how your feline companions can benefit from your practice as well!

  • YOGA HELPS YOU SLEEP BETTER: It is important for humans owned by cats to get a good nights sleep so you can rise and shine extra early. We cats like to start the day with a hearty meal about an hour before the sun comes up. A regular yoga practice will help you sleep well so you are ready to jump out of bed and into the kitchen at the earliest hour possible!
  • YOGA HELPS YOU DEVELOP STRENGTH: I can’t tell you how many times my humans have to move the couch each week in order to fetch a lost toy. Transporting cats in carriers to vet appointments and lifting large boxes of cat litter off store shelves all require strength as well.
  • YOGA HELPS YOU DEVELOP FLEXIBILITY: Scooping litter boxes requires a lot of squatting and bending. Pippy here demands a clean litter boxes and I like mine scooped several times a day. Having a human who can keep up with this demand is very important. You may also be required to contort your body in several different types of positions while sleeping each night in order to accommodate where we like to sleep. So a regular yoga practice can help make you “bendier”.
  • YOGA HELPS YOU DEVELOP PATIENCE: Some days I like to get on the kitchen cabinets even though I know they are a “no no” place. But I can’t help it as they are so temping and the view so magnificent. I do not need to be spoken to in a loud obnoxious voice or be threatened with a water bottle. No I need a human with patience to wait until I’m good and ready to get down.
  • YOGA MAKES YOU MORE INTUITIVE: I, Pippy like to have my needs anticipated and I’m pretty sure I am not the only feline who feels this way! An intuitive human is important. For example, why should I have to beg for a snack or for anything for that matter? The more intuitive a human is the better they can serve the felines in their life.

So as you can see, a regular yoga practice is a win win for human and feline alike! When we’re happy then you are happy!

Until next week….

Meow and Namaste!

Love,

Pippy
