Friday Feline Fun!

It’s Friday Feline Fun day! Happy Friday to feline yogis everywhere and to the humans who serve them! In the continual celebration of the magnificent species which is the cat below are a few fun feline facts plus a few links to some fun cat stories!

Feline Facts

  • The cat has been in our homes for only 5,000 years. Compare that to the dog which was domesticated by man as a hunting partner 10,000 years ago.
  • There are approximately 220 million domestic cats in the world according to the International Federation for Animal Health Europe (IFAH). Their figures exclude strays or community cats. So just think how many cats total there are in the world!
  • The Egyptians are the first “cat nuts” on record. By 3000 B. C. they were considered sacred. They Egyptians held cats in such awe that anyone who killed or injured a cat was put to death. And if an Egyptian’s house caught fire, the house cat was saved first. Talk about a culture that held cats in high esteem and worshiped them for the deities they are!

Cat Stories you MUST Check Out!

Pippy and I love the whole idea of Japanese cat cafes. We came across a charming little travel blog this week called Sarah’s Excellent Adventures. She does a great job of giving you the skinny on what it’s like inside a Japanese Cat Cafe. And if you don’t know what a Japanese Cat Cafe is, all the more reason to check this fun post out!

In the mood for some cat fashion? Are all you human yogis out there tired of the same old same old leggings and yoga tees you constantly trek around in even when not in class?  Come on! You know what I’m talking about!  Cats can now adorn our sweaters, dresses, shoes, headbands and yes probably our yoga clothes as well! Cats have been popping up on the runways and fashion spreads galore lately. Check out this article for some cat fashion inspiration!

Who’s Practicing Yoga on The Yoga Cat Mat?

Tulip is! That’s who!

Tulip chilling on The Yoga Cat Mat

Kitten Tulip is the prime example of a feline yogi in the making! She was rescued by Luxe Paws, a fabulous grass roots animal group that promotes adoption for animals saved from the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Los Feliz, and Echo Park. Tulip’s foster knows the importance of starting little kitties off right and nurturing their inner and outer spirits so they can develop into the little yogis that all felines are meant to be!

Tulip using the yoga prop on The Yoga Cat Mat to perfect her pose

As Tulip begins her journey of perfecting her yoga poses, she is especially interested in the props (rope and twine ball stuffed with catnip). She knows from an early age that her yoga practice will be influenced by the B.K.S. Iyengar method.

Tulip is on her way towards enlightenment and is looking for the perfect home to share her insights and wisdom! Are you that special someone? If so, please email Luxe Paws at info@luxepaws.org.

Feline Yogi knows Jr Feline Yogini Tulip has and will continue to bring much light and love to the world in the days ahead!

Pippy’s Yoga Tip of the Week: Gurus? Do I Need One?

Pippy the Feline Yogini

I’m often asked “Pippy do I need a guru in order to further advance my yoga practice and seek a higher spiritual plane? Yes you do! And that guru should preferably be a cat and not one of the human persuasion. Finding enlightenment without a guru is much more difficult so do yourself a favor and seek the guidance of a feline.

Do you have a cat or kitten in your life? Great! You already have someone to apprentice under. If you don’t have a cat go to your shelter or rescue group or befriend a kitty on the street. We felines have much to offer and if you don’t have a cat in your life you are missing out on the opportunity to serve another being.

So you have your cat guru lined up? Fabulous! So what do you do now? You observe, listen, and not ask too many questions. Remember my species was revered in Ancient Egypt and we were once worshiped as Gods. We have never forgotten this and neither should you. One must not ask too many questions of a God or Goddess. Just observe and soak up our wisdom and guidance. All the rest will fall into place.

Pippy

Every week Pippy the Feline Yogini offers a yoga tip. Her words of wisdom are directed at the human species since those of the Feline ilk pretty much have this yoga thing down!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pippy and Paige would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Paige will be enjoying a vegan feast at a dear friend’s house. Pippy and her feline companions will enjoy a tasty treat from The Honest Kitchen and the community cats in our neighborhood will enjoy a scrumptious meal from Weruva.

This Thanksgiving Pippy is thankful for the following;

  • Her humans who keep her well fed with lots of tasty meals
  • She has lots of windows to view the birds outside her house
  • Her yoga practice
  • That her humans have gone several months without bringing a new cat into the house

This Thanksgiving Paige is thankful for all her beautiful felines and turtle who bring her so much joy!

Happy Thanksgiving All!

Love,

Feline Yogi

Who’s Practicing Yoga on The Yoga Cat Mat?

Jaxson is! That’s who!

Jaxson chilling out on The Yoga Cat Mat with his feline companion Matty

Jaxson’s human recently got him and his feline companion Matty The Yoga Cat Mat. Matty was featured last week so if you missed it check it out by clicking here. Jaxson is a strikingly handsome 3 year old Ragdoll kitty rescue.

His human has this to say about Jaxson:  “He loves to play but he’s a little more zen then his younger playmate Matty. He loves catnip and the soft Feline Yoga mat is the perfect place for him to roll around and chill out, which he does often. Sometimes he just waits on the mat until the catnip arrives!  And  mommy loves it because it keeps the catnip in one place, and not all over the floor!”

Namaste Jaxson!

Pippy’s Yoga Tip of the Week-Get Up Early!

Pippy-The Feline Yogini

Greetings Felines and the Humans who Serve us! This week’s yoga tip has to do with rising and shining! This translates into getting our tuckuses out of bed early and I mean early! Yogis don’t spend time sleeping in and hitting the snooze button repeatedly. The earlier you can get up the better.

I begin my day around 4:30am. After a long stretch and quick trip to the litter box, I’m back up on the bed with my humans and doing all within my power to get them up as well. I scratch on the sides of the mattress, walk on their faces, and paw the alarm clock till it falls off the nightstand. The other felines help out as well. This is one of the rare times we all work together as a cohesive well oiled machine.

Around 6am the female human usually starts to slowly drag herself out of bed and into the kitchen. However, this is not before several curse words, shoving us off the bed and trying to lock us out of the bedroom. But we always win! So get up early and you will win too!

Matty is!  Or MAT-ty! That’s who!

Feline Yogi Matty indulging in a bit of “nip”

Matty is an strikingly handsome 11 month old tuxedo feline yogi who was rescued by a human named Avaire.  At first Matty had several physical problems but he was diligent with his yoga practice and and has now recovered from his multiple illnesses. His human says he is a ball of energy and has taken over the house! Way to go Matty! Remember that house is yours and never forget it!

His human Avarie has this to say about Matty: “He loves The Yoga Cat Mat where he can zone out and contain his craziness to one area…..the ball on the string is so entertaining for him that it tricks him into being calm – at least while he’s on the mat!”

As one can see from the picture above, Matty enjoys indulging in cat nip!

Namaste Matty!
